Fungi are critical in the orchestration of nutrient cycling, pathogen suppression, and balancing of ecosystems. They attack nematodes, insects, and are constantly working to modify their immediate environment in concert with bacteria and other organisms. The second largest Kingdom on the planet, with over an estimated 5 million and only 160,000 have been identified, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Tradd Cotter delves deep and brings you into this immersive experience that will dazzle and leave you feeling optimistic about the future of our planet and have you integrating fungi into your life.
Speaker Bio: Tradd Cotter
Tradd Cotter is a distinguished microbiologist and professional mycologist with over three decades of experience in the field. In 1996, Tradd founded Mushroom Mountain, a groundbreaking venture dedicated to exploring diverse applications for fungi, including food production, environmental remediation, and natural alternatives to chemical pesticides. At Mushroom Mountain, they also created the first program in the United States for commercial foragers to become state-certified identification experts of East Coast fungi, raising the standards for safe and responsible mushroom harvesting. Their commitment to advancing mycological knowledge is evident in the best-selling book, Organic Mushroom Farming and Mycoremediation, published in 2014, which remains a valuable resource for both amateur and professional mushroom cultivators.
Tradd’s innovative research has earned numerous accolades, including the Clemson University Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the EPA GRO-U Fellowship Award. In 2022, they sold Mushroom Mountain to focus on psychedelic-assisted therapy and medical research, co-founding Blue Portal, a company specializing in psychedelic therapy, medicinal innovations, and industrial applications for fungi. Through engaging lectures and workshops, Tradd shares extensive knowledge and passion for fungi with audiences worldwide.
