MEET THE SPEAKER

Dr. Cathy Cripps is a Professor of Mycology at Montana State University and a leading expert in alpine and arctic fungi. Her research focuses on fungal ecology in extreme environments, including ectomycorrhizal relationships, alpine biodiversity, climate impacts on fungal communities, and whitebark pine restoration.

Her work has helped advance understanding of how fungi support plant life in harsh mountain ecosystems , and she is also widely known for her field-based education and contributions to Rocky Mountain mushroom identification resources.

Her book will be available for purchase at the meeting.

MEETING TOPIC:

This presentation will explore alpine and high-elevation fungi—species that thrive above treeline in extreme environments—and their ecological relationships, including associations with trees like whitebark pine.
